Are your products organic and natural?

We strive to use 100% organic materials and ingredients whenever possible.
While all of our products are natural, they do not say we are 100% organic due to natural ingredients and actives that are not suitably labeled organic. For example, many of the actives we use like allantoin, hyaluronic acid or
derivatives of plant particles are natural however, are not whole plant ingredients and therefore are not labeled organic. We are very careful where we purchase our ingredients, grow many of our own and support other small,
non-genetically modified farmers like us to support a sustainable world.

If I were to start with one product, what would it be?

Starting with our Face Silk Serum or Radiance Face Oil would give a glimpse into the biologically formulated process many of our customers continue to purchase. These oils have actives that boost cellular regeneration, plump fine lines while
moisturizing deep into the epidermis.

What should I use if I have more than one skin type or skin concern?

Several of our customers benefit from customizing their routine with combining products from different skin collections. This is a great way to mix and match to fit your needs best. You can filter between the different skin filter types to select products that you feel define your skin best.

What products are considered safe to use while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Several essential oils should be avoided at ratios above 3% such as:
Aniseed, basil, birch camphor, clary sage, hyssop, mogwort, oak moss, parley seed or leaf, pennyroyal, peppermint, rosemary, rue, sage, tansy, tarragon, thuja, thyme, wintergreen, wormwood. Fortunately, we formulate with less than
1% with these oils. Keep in mind using 100% essential oils on skin is not
recommended, pregnant or not.

While there are several essential oils to avoid at higher percentages, these are safe and have been known to help during pregnancy: cardamom, ginger, frankincense, German or Roman chamomile, lavender, neroli, petitgrain, rose or rosewood, geranium, lemon, patchouli, sandalwood, wild orange

The remaining products at ModernRoots are safe to use for pregnancy or breastfeeding. In fact, we have several items for this beautiful time of your life and are here to support your growing family.

It is important to note, not all women like smells during pregnancy. This is a case by case situation and during this sensitive time, individuals can become more sensitive to ingredients compared to when
they are not pregnant. Be sure to checkout our scent free options.

What is the shelf life on natural, nontoxic products?

Shopping directly from us, online or instore ensures you are getting the freshest ingredients and products. Shelf life of products is 24 months. If you find that your product has an unusual, unpleasant smell it is a good indication you should find a replacement for this product as it has exceeded it's shelf life. If you are unsure, we are always ready to help our customers. Get in contact with us.

Where do you source your essential oils and other ingredients?

Our ingredients come directly from farms that have undergone critical testing for cleanliness, quality, efficacy and sustainability. We also create relationships with these farms as a community of non-genetically modified farmers and entrepreneurs to provide safe and effective ingredients.

Our essential oils are sourced through the same process of farmers and all of our oils are certified organic. They have these awards and seals:

ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, GMP, HALAL, HACCP, Certified Kosher & Cruelty/Animal Testing Free.

What is double cleansing and is it right for me?

Double cleansing simply means cleansing the face two times. For some, this process is a way to clean the pores extra well, reducing their appearance and preventing them from becoming larger. Our customers love using our Blue Tansy Oil Cleanser followed by the Milk Kefir Face Wash to feel extra clean without the dryness.

It may be a good fit for you if you are concerned about pore size, want a gentle extra feel good clean or wear makeup that needs an extra boost to come out of the pores.

I'm sensitive to natural deodorant, can you tell me why and what would be appropriate for me?

People that are sensitive to natural deodorant typically have a sensitivity to bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda. While it's effectiveness is high, the reaction and how strong it can be is too harsh for some individuals causing rashing or redness in the armpits. We have a diatomaceous earth version that is much more mild and appropriate for those with this sensitivity.

As a note, it is best to wash armpits before bed, not place a deodorant in them. The glands need to breath and detox just like the rest of our bodies and sleep is medicine to the mending of our bodies.

Use our comfrey salve if you have experienced sensitivities to this delicate area.

Are you in any retail locations?

We have stores throughout Minnesota, Idaho and Montana. We are growing so be sure to checkout our social media platforms to stay updated!

Do you only use essential oils for your scents?

We use mostly essential oils, absolutes and plant extracts for our scent processes however, we do use scent blends in some of our soaps and lotions to create a viable product for those with sensitivities to essential oils.
We have many cancer survivors and little kids that can be sensitive to these very strong smells and active which in this case are more suited to our scent blends.

All of our products are paraben and phthalate free. We do not use any ingredients that are considered endocrine disruptors, silicones or sulfates.

Are your products gluten free?

Yes! ModernRoots is gluten free.

What do you use as preservatives?

Our preservatives are plant derived and we use vitamins and ferments to preserve our formulas. We use the same preservatives as many organic food companies use. We also have several products that are preservative free.
